Rose Jam Shower Gel

There are not that many people on the planet that don't like surprises. Whether it be a sporadic gift, an unexpected phone call from a distant friend, or an opportunity arisen from the ashes of another action, a sudden act of kindness is almost always most welcome. The same can be said when your enjoyment of a product outweighs that of your prior expectations. This was the case when I first experienced this rather special shower gel.

Released many years ago, the Rose Jam Bubbleroon made a big impression on me, so much so that I felt rather guilty that I'd left it so long before trying it out. Next came the Rose Jam Perfume, of which I stocked up on during Lush's 2013 Forum Perfume Special. In the same month, Lush also chose to re-release their very popular Rose Jam Shower Gel to coincide with their Christmas range.

The fragrance that accompanies all three of these products, as well as their Ro's Argan Body Conditioner and the currently discontinued Scentenary Soap, is a beautiful and very unique combination of sweet, citrus and floral.

Firstly, you can detect a strong but equally soft rose note that stems from the inclusion of rose oil and rose absolute. There's also a subtle element of lemon in the mix, which adds a natural zesty layer to the shower gel. Finally, the addition of geranium oil pads out the smell with a gentle but sharp floral note. Together, these ingredients give the overall fragrance a certain element of depth, which prevents it from being another predictable rose-scented product.

To me, this shower gel smells like freshly made Turkish delight - a rich, fruity and rather sophisticated combination that makes for a very indulgent experience in the shower. Those of you who dislike rose-scented cosmetics, may write this off before trying it out. However, I would really recommend that you give it a chance - you may just find you love it.

Out of the bottle, Rose Jam Shower Gel is a translucent, cerise colour and is rather thick and 'gloopy' - a little runnier than Happy Hippy but more like a thick jelly than a thin shower gel. It's very easy to lather up and you need very little to produce a thick, oily and very cleansing lather.

With the addition of vanilla pod infusion and goji berry juice, as well as vitamin rich, nourishing argan oil, this shower gel works immediately on conditioning and nourishing your skin, leaving it feeling velvety-soft the second you rinse the lather away. This softness stays with you throughout the entire day and I often skip applying a body lotion when I use this in the shower.
What is great about this shower gel is that, despite it's gentle scent, the wonderful sweet fragrance permeates your skin and stays with you for hours and hours afterwards. It's lovely to be able to top up the smell with a little spray of Rose Jam Perfume and enjoy the gorgeous scent all day long.

As many floral products can be rather overpowering, I would normally recommend that rose-scented cosmetics be used in colder months - to awaken the mind and warm the senses whilst you're battling against the elements. However, Rose Jam Shower Gel is light enough to be enjoyed all year round, and I tend to use it during the spring and summer months to compliment the warm weather.

Overall, this is a fantastic product from Lush and I cannot understand why they have not chosen to keep this a permanent feature in their range. Luckily, I have two 500g bottles from the Christmas release, but I'll be sure to double up if the opportunity arises.

    2. It's a great idea about solid shampoo with the scent of Rose Jam!.. I was incredibly surprised by the Rose Jam shower gel applied on my hair. It seems it contains really precious oils, because my hair became so shiny and smooth, and softy of course! Apart from its intoxicating smell, which stays forever!

I hope you will review new Christmas shower gels soon :-)

  3. OMG a rose jam perfume, I wish I had it!! I think the Rose Jam scent has to be my favorite Lush scent so far. I finally purchased Ro's Argan and I'm in love with it. I only bought a small bottle of the Rose Jam shower gel because that's all they had but I will be stocking up on it. And how did you know about the Rose Jam scented shampoo?!? I need it whenever it comes out!

    1. I'm glad you love the scent so much - it really is wonderful. How many bottles do you think you'll get? There have been pictures floating around that show a handful of new solid bars that are coming out very soon - maybe even this month as they're coming out with the new Lush Times. It's called Jason and and Argan Oil :)

  4. It is my favorite! I know I'll get at least one big bottle but it depends on if I like the other 3 they released (hot toddy, so white, and snow fairy) how many more I get. I got small bottles of all 4 of them. I can't wait to smell everything in the Halloween/Christmas line that I ordered. After that I'll be able to tell you exactly what I'll stock up on. My husband is gonna kill me when he sees how much I spent already though lol.

  8. Hey Jen, I really need your advice, I was wondering how much shower gel/soap you would need to last you a year if you showered twice a day and had a bath once a week. It migh sound weird but I want to do a massive shop on Boxing Day (the big 5-0-% of sale if you anyone's reading this and didn't know) I want to get it right to relieve the tempation of buy about £1,200 pounds worth! Any help really appreciated!

    1. Goodness me! I would say that a 500g bottle would last you a good two months, if you're really generous with your helpings, longer if you're more reserved! To be on the safe side, you'll probably want to get 6 500g bottles or 3 Kg and this would be more than enough to see you through the year :)

  9. Did they change the formula of this for 2016? The picture seems more peach in color than usual.
