Lush D.I.Y

This is a page where I experiment with Lush products and scents - converting them into formats that Lush have yet to do. As someone who knows next to nothing about creating cosmetics, this is highly experimental and won't often be a success. However, that's the fun of it! So if you have any tips on how to better any of these products, please get in touch!

    1. I am aware of Calacas but I've refrained from buying any given that I still have 12 bottles from the last time - hehe!

  2. OMG Prince Charming body lotion, I can't wait for you to make that :) I love the scent of the shower gel. Lush definitely needs more products with that scent!

  3. Hi Jen!

There are countless tutorials online on how to turn a bar of soap into shower gel by simply grating the soap and mixing it with boiling water. Do you reckon it'd be safe to do this with Lush soaps, seeing as they do not have preservatives like other soaps?

Thanks for the super ideas! Can't wait to try em all

  4. I tried to turn a Lush soaps into a sugar scrub. just melt the soap using microwave and mix with sugar. because I don't have blender ;( so I can't conform with your tutorials.
in my attemption, I notice that mixing 1Tsp of shower gel and 2Tsp of sugar, and 0.5Tsp of oil would be a great shower sugar scrub.

if you don't mind, have you try to turn shower gel into sugar scrub?

  5. Excited for the fun conversion.
I'd also be interested in a Gel>scrub. I tried making one myself and it ended up just smelling weird?

  7. I was wondering if it would be possible to somehow convert solid perfumes into liquid, that would save so much money - since I have lust and karma solid perfumes!!

    1. That's an idea - I might do a little research and see if I can come up with a formula.

    2. I read somewhere that you could boil it, but it's risky, i'd say mixing it with a liquid would work? Not sure though

    3. Perfume is flammable so I'd be really careful with that...

    4. Anyone had any luck with this? I have a solid LOM and I really want it to be a liquid, but I'm afraid I will ruin this precious little pot of wonderfulness lol.

  8. Hi where do you buy your unscented Shower gel from ?

    1. My favourite for consistency and lack of smell is from Calmer Solutions. Their website offers a large bottle for about £5 and they ship worldwide. I just found that out of all of the unscented ones, this is the only one that didn't have a funny after scent to it and the consistency is perfect for DIYing with Lush stuff.

    1. Definitely! I've just had a sort out and found so many blocks of soap hanging around - I'm going to make it my mission to try and covert them to shower gels this weekend!

    2. did that works?

  10. Sorry if this posts twice but I don't think it worked the first time. My question is, being that shower gels are essentially soap, and meant to be rinsed off, is it ok to make them into lotions which are left on the skin?

    1. I don't know if I'd make a lotion from a soap because the concentration of soap to lotion would be quite high so it would probably dry your skin out. However, in regards to the Violet Nights concoction, the ratio was very different in terms of how much VD I added compared to lotion :)

    1. I feel lik that would be really hard seeing as it would be hard to separte the colors from the dye and even then it would probably be more water based and wouldn't mix well with the alcohol you'd need for perfume? but what do I know.

  15. I am trying to make some of my Lush soaps into shower gels and hand soap -- it's amazing! You basically just grate the soap and add boiling water -- I add a little almond or grapeseed oil too to make it more nourishing. Let it sit, mix it up, and voila! :)
