When I first discovered that most of the Christmas range this year was comprised of new products with old scents, I was a little disappointed. While I love most of the fragrance families that Lush bring out, there's nothing more exciting than discovering new scents for the first time. However, my heart and mind was temporarily overridden with excitement when I heard about this particular bath melt.
Snow Angel is a stunning bath companion that may initially get over-looked for the more colourful members of the seasonal family. However, once it catches your eye, you cannot help but marvel in it's beauty. Shaped like the angels you find on top of Christmas trees, this bath product consists of a silvery-white layer on top and a sparkly golden layer underneath.
Unfortunately, the inclusion of that much glitter in a product will no doubt deter many people from giving it a chance, which is a shame as it really isn't that messy at all to use.
Sharing it's scent with one of my favourite soaps, Snowcake, this bath companion offers a real warming, Christmassy scent. Made from a blend of rose, benzoin and cassie absolute, this product has a wonderfully sweet and rich marzipan scent.
Benzoin is an oil extracted from tender, evergreen trees and is commonly used to calm irritation in cracked, sore, and very dry skin conditions. Benzoin is best known for its sweet, balsamic, vanilla and ice cream-like essence. It is also used for its warming qualities, believed to stimulate blood flow and ease aching muscles.
Cassie is a member of a fascinating acacia-genus of trees and shrubs and yields a scent of violet and orange blossom. The odour is both spicy and floral. Aroma therapists use it for treating depression, nervous exhaustion and stress-related conditions where its beautiful, sunny note uplifts the spirits. Together, these scents create a unique and very decadent bath bomb like no other before it.
In the bath tub, this bath melt is a slow dissolver and it's truly wonderful to be able to watch Snow Angel release an abundance of creamy, white foam that covers the surface of the water like a blanket of snow. These skin-softening trails of white remain with you when you sink into the water and help to nourish and moisturise your body. The inclusion of cocoa butter in the ingredients list helps to soften the water and you can see little deposits of oil on the surface, which dissolve into your skin to leave it silky-soft and smelling heavenly.
As the angel continues to disperse across the water, trails of golden-yellow emerge from beneath the white foam and paint the water like little strokes of sunshine. Once the bath bomb has completely dissolved, the water becomes a vibrant marzipan-yellow colour - a great warming shade for those cold winter evenings.
What is great about Snow Angel is that the scent was not lost once the bath melt had fully dissolved - I could still detect the sweet, caramel-eque aroma in and around my bathroom, and it stayed with me for the duration of the experience. While it didn't remain on the skin for that long after I had exited the bath, I sprayed a little of the perfume on myself afterwards and was able to bask in the glorious scent all day.
This bath product is another fantastic seasonal offering from Lush and one that I highly recommend that you try before it disappears. It's a perfect product for those who want something warming and relaxing, but dislike the popular candy scents and don't particularly favour the spicy, cinnamon offerings. I will definitely be purchasing another handful of these before the year is out.
