Dear John Solid Perfume

Dear John is a fragrance family that didn't initially jump out at me from the reviews and articles that I read about the perfume, yet one that stole my heart the second I experienced the wonderful scent for the first time. It put it's foot firmly in the door and made it very clear to me that it was in it for the long haul. So far, my guest has been most welcome.

Dear John Solid Perfume is the last product in this scent family that I have left to try, which is rather depressing given how much I love the fragrance. Given my incredibly positive experience with the liquid variation, this perfume had a lot to live up to - an almost impossible task.

It's described by Lush as 'a confident and assuring manly scent with a warm citrus splash and a strong coffee note.' Yet I would argue that it's not particularly masculine at all - I would describe it as a perfectly balanced unisex fragrance. Featuring notes of vetivert, cedar, clove, coriander, lime, coffee and pine, it is both as unique and as wonderful as it sounds.

What makes Dear John one of my favourite solid perfumes, is the colour it gives off in the tin. You definitely don't expect the deep, Oxford blue when you remove the lid for the first time, but it's the perfect shade for this scent and compliments the different notes wonderfully.

In the tin, the dark fragrance is rather subtle but the moment your finger warms the waxes and oils, the much-loved aroma becomes more prominent. In this format, it is the citrus, cedarwood and coffee elements that come through the strongest. The lime oil gives off a wonderfully gentle citrus smell and unlike the liquid version, this note becomes quite zesty when it warms on your skin.

There is also the gentle woodiness of the cedarwood that when intertwined with the warm thread of coffee, offers up a rich and rather sultry aroma. The latter has none of the bitterness that you find in Percup - this is a wonderfully comforting smell. Next up is the vetivert - an earthy and slightly smoky aroma which adds some depth to the perfume without being too overpowering or pungent. It adds an air of sophistication about the fragrance and gives it that slightly masculine feel about it.

On the skin, Dear John leaves a light, greasy trail of blue but this disperses once it's been massaged into the skin. Unlike the liquid perfume, this one matures a lot quicker and offers a complex and rather enticing fragrance. Unfortunately, the one aspect that lets this perfume down is that it doesn't last that long on the skin. Within two hours I could no longer detect this and I had to top up, which is a shame.

Having said that, Dear John Solid Perfume is a wonderful addition to any collection. It offers a one-of-a-kind uplifting fragrance that relaxes your mind and leaves girls and boys smelling beautiful. This is a perfume that I will never be without.

    1. Hi - I would keep checking back if I was you - Lush do tend to sell out of their best sellers quite often but they usually restock within a week (or two in extreme cases). This will come back soon, I suspect :)
