First released back when Lush were known as Cosmetics To Go, this perfume has been a firm favourite amongst women and men alike. As far as unisex perfumes go, this is one of the best, and there are many reasons why I consider it to be one of my all-time favourite Lush perfumes.
Dear John Liquid Perfume is such a beautiful experience. Featuring notes of vetivert, cedar, clove, coriander, lime, coffee and pine, this is both as unique and as wonderful as it sounds on paper. While my initial experiences with the bubble bar and soap weren't as promising, this one stole my heart instantly.
You only have to sniff the bottle to experience the complexity and sheer beauty of this fragrance. Immediately, you can smell the citrus elements intertwined with the cedarwood. It has a slight sourness to it that is incredible subtle in the bottle but elevates considerably when placed on the skin. As I said in my review of the Dear John Body Spray, this citrus note is a subtle scent that reminds me a little of lime cheesecake - a gentle but equally fruity smell.
Alongside this is the vetivert - an earthy and slightly smoky aroma which adds some depth to the perfume without being too overpowering or pungent. It adds an air of sophistication about the fragrance and gives it that slightly masculine feel about it. There's also the hint of coffee and clove - both of which are fairly far back in the mix but which add a warm and slightly spicy note to it.
When sprayed on the skin, the perfume intensifies under the heat of your body and elevates the fragrance to a whole new level. The citrus elements become more prominent and stronger, the pine and coriander make a delicate visit and pad out the wonderful aroma of Dear John. Every ingredient works in perfect harmony with the others and offers wearers a truly amazing experience. A 10ml bottle of Dear John will set you back £14, which I think is a steal given how gorgeous it really is. It lasts for hours on your skin, initially being quite potent on the senses but soon settling down to offer you a delicate, fruity and slightly woody fragrance.
Despite containing a list of what seems like contradictory ingredients, Dear John is perfectly balanced and wonderfully exquisite. It's also surprisingly light and uplifting yet equally sensual and comforting for the wearer. It's a perfume that leaves a lasting impression and one you cannot help but fall in love with.
