The Sun Bath Oil

Digging deep into my seemingly endless bag of Oxford Street goodies, I stumbled upon a rather crumbled bag containing two slightly misshapen bath oils. Having had a stressful and incredibly busy day at work, I knew these sparkling bronze delights would be just what I needed to unwind and gain a little part of myself back.

While the array of bath oils are enough to make any mouth salivate, it is The Sun that would probably be the first to gage most people's attention in the shop. Designed to mimic the very star it is named after, these radiant golden nuggets are a delight to observe and even more of a pleasure to use in the bath.

Sharing it's scent with the perfume of the same name, - not to mention the limited edition Wonder Woohoo Bubble Bar of times gone by, this £2 bathing companion is packed full of ingredients to bring the sunshine to your tub. With orange and tangerine oils, not to mention mimosa absolute, this vibrant and rather zesty product is perfect for the up-and-coming summer months.

As I described in my review of the perfume, The Sun encapsulates the zest of freshly squeezed oranges with the bitterness of the rind. It's like someone has bottled the fragrance you get when peeling back a fresh orange and getting that initial burst of both sweetness and bitterness. It's beautiful.

While the orange oil gives this bath oil it's citrus note, the mimosa adds a slight fizziness that makes this fragrance very youthful and playful. Although it's very subtle in the overall smell, the sandalwood grounds this aroma and adds a warm and slightly sultry undertone.
As if the scent wasn't enough to bowl you over, this beauty is packed full of essential butters and oils to nourish your skin and leave you feeling as soft as a baby. With shea butter and cocoa butter to moisture and condition, this grape-sized offering is effective enough to be used by itself, or if you'd rather, you could combine it with a bath bomb to pad out the fragrance and add extra softening powers to the water.

In the tub, this ball of essential oils immediately begins to bleed out across the surface - releasing little puddles of orange colour etched with bronze glitter. These streams of colour slowly sink to the bottom and create interesting streams of colour that paint the water like a watercolour picture. Once the bath oil had completely dispersed, the whole water turned a lovely warm paste orange colour and the smell radiates across the whole bathroom - creating a very refreshing experience for me to enjoy.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the scent of this to be as strong as some of the other bath oils that I have had the pleasure of using so far. In all fairness, I don't think this is the fault of the product - more the actual fragrance itself, which I don't believe is rounded enough to work well in a tub-full of water.

As with the perfume edition, I found that the smell disappeared quite quickly and because it's heavily citrus-orientated, the aroma itself wasn't all that strong to begin with. In fact, it wasn't until the melt was dissolving in the water that I was able to detect the full extent of the scent to begin with.

On the positive side, The Sun did leave my skin feeling really soft and well-nourished - a benefit that was noted pretty quickly after I had submerged myself under the water. For this reason, while I don't believe it works that well by itself, it would definitely be an asset if used along side something with a little more fragrance.

While I wouldn't pick this over the likes of You've Been Mangoed or Lime Pastille, I would probably buy it again in the future - if only to pair it with something like Amandopondo or Avobath to make the water a little softer on the skin.

  1. If you want to pair it with Amandopondo you might want to hurry! They are going to be removing that from stores...

    1. The Lush kitchen advertise on Facebook and Instagram on a Sunday night what will be in the kitchen the following week. That way you can plan if there's anything you want that week and Jen has done her Oxford St reviews to coincide to help people who don't know anything about the new products. Xx

    3. You're ungrateful because you are wasting the life your parents gave you when you could be out there using your vitriol to protest worthwhile things instead you are slating a woman that reviews bath products?,seriously take a look at yourself and think about what you could apply yourself to that would actually make a difference .
