The Sun Liquid Perfume

When Lush first brought out the Volume 2 collection a few years back, none of the perfume titles appealed to me as much as this one did. With it's beautiful shade of bright yellow and the rather vivid design on the label, I envisaged this fragrance as being like 'sunshine in a bottle'. I wasn't wrong.

The Sun is a simple name for a scent - a perfume inspired by the 'fond memories of happier times' - when Mark Constantine made a United States roadtrip with his friends, 'driving down the shore whilst listening to Simon and Garfunkel.' This fragrance was created as a permanent reminder of the luxury that comes with enjoying the summer sun.

Alongside the solid edition of this perfume, this accompanied me on my holiday to Spain last year and worked perfectly in unison with the scorching heat that caressed my bare skin. As far as citrus scents go, this is one of the more natural ones that the company offer - a simple but equally luxurious addition to the Lush family.                                                                                                         Made from a combination of orange and sandalwood oil, with a sprinkling of mimosa absolute, this perfume is a bright, refreshing and very uplifting fragrance. Straight from the bottle it does pertain a slightly acidic smell, which may initially put you off trying it on your skin. However, once it has had time to mature with the heat of your body, a new, more vibrant aroma makes itself known.
As I described in my review of the solid edition, The Sun encapsulates the zest of freshly squeezed oranges with the bitterness of the skin. It's like someone has bottled the fragrance you get when peeling back a fresh orange and getting that initial burst of both sweetness and bitterness. It's beautiful.

While the orange oil gives this perfume it's citrus note, the mimosa adds a slight fizziness that makes this fragrance very youthful and playful. Although it's very subtle in the overall smell, the sandalwood grounds this aroma and adds a warm and slightly sultry undertone.

Unfortunately, the one downfall that I found with both versions of this fragrance is that the scent is very short-lived. I applied quite a lot to both of my wrists and found that within 30 minutes, the smell had all but disappeared. While it's one of the cheapest perfumes, costing a mere £10 for a 10ml bottle, it's longevity makes this less of a bargain than you originally think.

While the scent of The Sun is magnificent, it's lack of strength on the skin means I won't be using this very often. An occasional drop here and there to perk me up in the cooler months, but not something that will be a regular purchase for me.
