The one negative aspect of Lush that probably infuriates me more than anything else, is when they release a product for a limited run, only for it to disappear off the face of the earth, never to be seen again. Now, I understand that both the retro and seasonal products have a limited shelf life, which can be irritating for someone whose favourite product is only available for two months of the year. However, they have a small comfort in knowing that if they stock up, they might only have a month or two without said item. I'm talking about products that show their faces once and then never make a reappearance. One such product is Crackersnap Ballistic.
Released as part of the 2012 Christmas range, this ballistic is one of the heftiest bath bombs I have yet to come across. Stretching out at nearly 18cm in length, and weighing in at nearly 400g, it's the biggest bath bomb released by Lush in a number of years. It's a beast of a bomb!
Sharing it's scent with Avobath, Crackersnap is crammed full of lemongrass, bergamot and rosewood oil; creating an uplifting and delicious citrusy experience. The fragrance here is very similar to the Dragon's Egg Ballistic, although it's slightly sourer and more refreshing. It promises to leave you feeling soft and clean, whilst the different oils work to soften your skin, uplift your spirits and leave you feeling relaxed and invigorated.
Lush recommend that you break this ballistic in half, as priced at a hefty £7.95, this is a rather expensive purchase to use all in one go. Furthermore, to make it authentic, Lush have included a few goodies inside that you may wish to remove to avoid them getting wet. This bath bomb worked wonderfully when used as two halves, as each half equates to a normal size ballistic anyway. However, just to test out what it would be like to use the whole product, I decided to use the entirety of Crackersnap in one go.
As soon as the bath bomb hit the water, it immediately began to fizz; vibrant green and yellow foam dispersing itself across the surface of the water. As it continues to bubble and spit it's colours into the tub, you'll begin to hear the wonderful sound of the popping candy, crackling under the surface.
After a good thirty seconds or so, the Crackersnap will succumb to the water and break in half, revealing a tissue paper hat, a joke and a reusable bubble bar crocodile. You'll also notice that the surface of the bath will be covered in sparkly flecks of golden lustre. This latter addition adds sparkle without covering you or the tub in annoying residue. Furthermore, it turns the bath water a beautiful shade of green which stays vibrant throughout the whole experience.
Christmas cracker will leave you soft and clean, whilst the lemongrass, rosewood and bergamot oils are reputed to uplift the spirits and give confidence. Unfortunately, despite leaving me feeling revitalised and ready for the day, Crackersnap's scent dispelled very quickly once I was in the tub, and I was left with almost no scent at all. This is a shame as I know the Avobath Ballistic retains it's scent perfectly.
Overall, I really enjoyed using the ballistic as it was fun and exciting to explore what it had to offer. Although the price tag was rather high, it you consider that each half equates to an Avobath and the bubble bar inside can be used in a third bath, it's actually works out cheaper than buying the three items separately.
The only reason I marked this ballistic down is because a. it is a lot of money to invest in a single bath product, especially if you're unsure whether you'll enjoy it or not. Secondly, because the scent is not as prominent in the bath as it is with the Avobath Ballistic, Lush would need to sort this out if they decide to bring it back.
In reference to my initial point; while it's infuriating that Lush offer consumers products that then disappear off the face of the planet, this is an example of one that needs to have a little work done to it before it makes a comeback. Maybe this Christmas will see its revival.
